The Duchess of Sussex has started 2019 off in style, attending her first engagement for the year at her new patronage, Smart Works. The organisation helps women to get back into the workforce – read more about the announcement of the Duchess’ patronages here. Meghan debuted a few new pieces in her ensemble today and threw in a very old piece just to keep all of the Royal Fashion watchers on their toes.

Meghan wore an Oscar de la Renta ‘Cotton Twill Coat’, retailing for £2,490. The open front coat features very oversized lapels, which gives a shawl collar effect at the rear, and is made from a sand coloured cotton twill. The swing coat hangs in a trapeze silhouette giving a 1960’s vibe and is in a midi length.
We love this oversized trench, it is so classic (not in terms of being classically tailored) but a staple piece for your wardrobe. You do not always have to wear every item of clothing fitted to show your figure. This trench is great to grab and throw-on piece that can be used over practically anything, to create a very chic look. It would be great with a white relaxed shirt, fitted skinny jeans and a camel newsboy hat. You could use a black leather belt and brooch to hold it closed on colder days.
You can purchase the coat here.

The expectant mother opted for a maternity dress today by the label Hatch. Meghan wore the ‘Eliza’ dress, retailing for a very reasonable £170. A simple pullover shift dress in a black knit, with scoop neckline, cap sleeves and falling to a midi-length. The dress has ribbing details around the neck, sleeve cuffs and hem. The dress made from a stretch cotton viscose knit and is said to grow with you during all stages your pregnancy, making this dress incredibly versatile and able to last the duration of your pregnancy. It looks super cosy and easy to wear and would be nice and comfortable for Meghan’s engagement.

The Duchess carried a new Victoria Beckham bag. The ‘Vanity Box leather tote’, originally retailing for £2,922, but now on sale for £1,695. This top handle bag is actually designed to look like a vintage style cosmetic case. The bag opens at the top, with large interior compartment, two slip pockets, a mirror underneath the top of the bag and is finished in a slick red crimson leather interior. The exterior has gold ridged hardware at the base of the handles the push-lock clasp and gold feet. The classic style bag is made from calf leather. We like the style of this bag much better than the one carried at Sandringham for the Christmas Church Service. You can purchase the bag in black here or alternatively in red here. Meghan wore a pair of heels that she has had in her closet for approximately four and half years. Meghan wore Gianvito Rossi ‘Plexi Pumps’ in a cow print pony hair. The Plexi Pump was an incredibly popular style for Gianvito Rossi with many celebrities seen wearing this style, as well as Queen Maxima of the Netherlands. The cow print however is quite hard to find and we have only managed to find you one stock image of the pumps. Meghan wore these heels for a photoshoot before she was married. Susan from @whatmegwore let us know the original images were used in Gritty Pretty Magazine in 2015 and then again in Elle France in December of 2017. We would assume these shoes were gifted to Meghan after the shoot.

A side note: the organisation member that greeted Meghan wore a pair of Aquazurra ‘Deneuve’ heels in a pink satin, that the Duchess owns in numerous colours.

The Duchess debuted a new pair of earrings. Meghan wore the Kimai ‘Felicity’ earrings, retailing for £315. These earrings are very in-keeping with Meghan’s quirky jewellery aesthetic style and pushing away from traditional royal jewels. The wavy gold bar is inlaid with diamonds and snakes up the ear lobe in a climber style. Three delicate chains dangle from the wavy bar with a gold and diamond eye shaped drop. These earrings are created with lab grown diamonds set in 18kt gold and are ethically sourced. Meghan is very fond of wearing brands that are ethical and environmental. You can purchase these earrings here.

Meghan wore a new ring on her right thumb. The i + i ‘Crescent Moon’ retailing for £190. The ring is made from 14ct gold and has a small crescent shaped moon inset in the centre. i+i is designed by Kirsty Patterson who was inspired to create pieces she couldn’t find anywhere else and could be worn for years to come. Kirsty started to develop more pieces when her friends started asking for the same pieces. The website states “10% of all profits are donated to Set Beautiful Free, an Indian charity that rescues women and children from sex slavery and teaches them skills to begin a new life.” Very much in keeping with Meghan’s ethically views on clothing.
You can purchase the ring here.
Meghan also carried a pair of tan suede gloves. The gloves currently remain unidentified.
