The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the premiere of the Lion King in London last night. Amongst some of the guests Harry and Meghan greeted were Beyonce and her husband Jay Z, and Elton John. The Duchess chose one of her go-to evening wear designers, Jason Wu for the occasion.

The Duchess chose Jason Wu ‘Mesh Panel Flared Dress’, retailing for £3,454. The classically styled fit and flare black satin dress has a rounded neckline, with sheer yoke overlay across the chest and long sleeves. The gorgeous evening frock is fitted through the waist and has a full skirt that flares to a midi length, very 1950’s style. The dress has an invisible back zip fastening at the rear, that reaches half way up the back with an open slit, that closes with single button fastening at the neck. The Duchess looked beautiful in the dress and was perfectly in keeping with her sartorial evening wear choices. You can purchase the dress here.

The Duchess carried a Gucci ‘Broadway embellished satin clutch’, costing £1,680. The black satin rectangular clutch has a rounded edge with antique gold toned hardware frame and a beautiful sparkly crystal-embellished butterfly clasp with a beige leather-lined interior and single slip pocket. The clutch also has an optional gold chain link shoulder strap. You can purchase the clutch here.

Meghan wore a new pair of Aquazurra ‘Portrait of a Lady Pumps’, in black satin, retailing for £810. The sky high 105mm pointed-toe slingback pumps are made from black grosgrain fabric and feature a delicate dazzling decorated spray of crystals over the ankle strap and buckle, almost looking like a row of leaves and a flower. The Duchess already owns the same pair in blue satin, which she also paired with a Jason Wu dress just before her announcing her pregnancy last year.

The Duchess of Sussex accessorised with Nikos Koulis ‘Oui White Diamond Black Enamel Stud Earring’. The cushion cut diamond sits within a rounded beveled black enamel. These earrings are said to be multi-use, with the wearer able to remove and change the stones into different jewellery pieces. We show a very similar design below.
We believe the Duchess’ may be slightly rounded at the corners of the enamel. Many U.S. Celebrities are often seen wearing Nikos Koulis pieces, including Meghan’s friend Oprah. Could these have been a gift from Oprah for her Baby Shower? See the earrings here.

We thought it a very smart move from Meghan to chose a black-tie cocktail length dress. Even though this was a red carpet event and a gown would be perfectly fitting, unfortunately – as Meghan used to be an actress herself – some may have placed undue criticism on the Duchess for trying to wear a gown to a film premiere. Instead she wore a beautiful frock still perfect for a red-carpet and let the actors of the movie take centre stage. A great thought from the Duchess of Sussex.
