Duchess of Cambridge is elegant in Alexander McQueen at State Banquet

The Duchess of Cambridge attended the State Banquet held at Buckingham Palace for visiting US President Donald Trump last night. Wearing the glittering Lover’s Knot Tiara, her new GCVO sash and star badge, pinned to her stunning Alexander McQueen gown, Kate made an entrance.

The Duchess wore a custom Alexander McQueen gown in white lace. The stunning gown, features a sweetheart neckline with small cap sleeves, a very fitted bodice to the waist with sweeping full flowing skirt to the floor. The show-stopping gown is embellished with cascading layers of scalloped edge eyelash trim lace.

Whilst Kate’s gown is a bespoke creation, below we show some similar construction elements from previous Alexander McQueen collections. The first is a multi-layer white full skirt gown from the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. The second is from the Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, a salmon pink fit and flare dress with the same tiered scalloped edge eyelash trim lace that is on Kate’s gown, though in a slightly larger scale.

Catherine carried her Alexander McQueen white box clutch with rounded edge silver metallic frame and embellished jewel faceted clasp. The clutch is currently available to purchase in either a pink or black colour-way. The white style available to purchase of this clutch is embellished, which Kate’s is not.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore her favourite tiara, the Lover’s Knot. Commissioned and previously owned by Queen Mary, the beautiful sparkling piece features graduated diamond spikes ending in oval diamonds. In between each spike, diamond bows or lover’s knots create a row a top the top, and the oval windows are accentuated with dangling tear drop shaped pearls.

Kate finished her look by accessorising with the Queen Mother’s exquisite sapphire and diamond fringe drop earrings and a multi-strand pearl bracelet; while it looks very similar to the one that used to belong to Diana, this actually has another strand, so we’re unsure of its provenance.

Unfortunately we did not get a glimpse of the Duchess heels tonight, but would assume they were either a silver sparkle heel, such as her Oscar de la Renta ‘Cabrina’ pumps, or Jimmy Choo ‘Vamp’ heels.

Kate’s newly awarded Royal Victorian Order of the Dame Grand Cross was a very welcome addition to her ensemble. The blue sash with red and white border, was pinned in place at Kate’s right shoulder with her diamond acorn and oak leaf brooch.

The star badge of the GVCO was pinned at waist, to the left.
