The Duchess of Cambridge today visited the costume department of the Royal Opera House in London. Kate was there to learn about their use of textiles and commissioning of fabrics and supply chain. The Duchess returned to an old favourite and added a glitzy new pair of heels.

The Duchess wore her Oscar de la Renta ‘Ultraviolet Suit’ from the autumn 2015 Ready To Wear Collection. This is an exquisitely tailored suit and we love both the colour and silhouette on the Duchess. The jacket has a rounded neckline with straight pointed down collar, a row of larger black buttons down the centre to the waistline, where the jacket kicks out into a beautiful feminine peplum with pleated folds. The jacket has two contrasting welt pockets across the chest. The rear of the jacket really shows the detail that has gone into the tailoring with numerous expertly cut panels formed to create a fitted and feminine shape before moving into the pleated peplum detail. The three-quarter length sleeves end in notch cut outs. The jacket is made from a blend of wool/polyamide and elastane.

The pretty skirt is slightly fitted through the waist before flaring out into a full pleated skirt, adding to the fullness of the peplum flare from the jacket. The angle of the flare from the jacket matches the angle of the flare from the skirt so well that is almost looks like a one-piece ensemble. The skirt has a half-zip at the rear and is also crafted from the same blend of wool/polyamide and elastane as the jacket.
We have seen this skirt suit on a few of occasions before. We would love to see Kate wear the pieces separately, mixed and matched into other pieces in her wardrobe to show their versatility. In some lighting, the suit almost appeared a purple colour. The skirt suit is unfortunately no longer available.

Kate carried her Aspinal of London ‘Midi Mayfair Bag,’ retailing for £495. This petite top handle bag is created in a deep shine black croc print from Italian calf leather. The bag has a half front flap with gold hardware push lock closure in signature shield lock, engraved with the branded logo. An optional and detachable strap gives a cross-body option, that the Duchess chose not to use. The interior of the bag has two large compartments, divided by an internal zip section and finished in red fabric. You can purchase this bag here. Try this to get the look for less here and here.

Kate wore a new pair of Rupert Sanderson ‘Nada Pebble’ pumps in patent black. The almond toe shaped pump has a distinctive gold hardware square on the toe vamp and have a much lower heel height than we are used to seeing from the Duchess (only 85mm). These pumps do not seem to be available in the colour-way the Duchess has worn today – perhaps they are from an upcoming season. We show them below in a black suede in a higher heel height and a dark pink colour-way in the heel of Kate’s pumps.
