Countess of Wessex in Alaïa at first garden party of the season

Yesterday, The Countess of Wessex attended the first garden party of the year with her husband Prince Edward, The Queen and her brother-in-law Prince Andrew, at Buckingham Palace. Over the warmer months, The Queen hosts a series of garden parties that are attended by a variety of guests, including those who have made a positive impact in their communities.

The Countess of Wessex at the first garden party of 2018 with The Queen; she wore Alaïa (royal family)

Sophie wore her Alaïa scalloped wavy stripe knit dress. This dress is very striking on Sophie and suits her perfectly. The rounded neckline at the front falls away into a very scooped back and hidden zip closure. The t-shirt sleeves and hemline of the skirt are finished in scalloped edges. The dress has a fitted bodice and flares into an a-line midi length skirt falling to below the knee, for a gorgeous demure feminine look. A wavy weave pattern features over the entirety of the dress, though this needs to be seen close up for this subtle feature to be appreciated.

Sophie recently wore this dress for the CHOGM week engagements. This dress is unfortunately sold out, though you can purchase it in a navy colour-way here. Get a very affordable replicate here.

Sophie wore a Jane Taylor hat. This is a large disc titled straw fascinator with wide lattice open weave brim. It is topped with a cream buntal twist around 2 large orange feathers. We think Sophie owns this Jane Taylor hat in two different styles, or she has taken it back to Jane Taylor for a bit of an accessory refresh. Sophie wore the exact Jane Taylor hat last year for Royal Ascot, though it was topped with a black buntal twist then. It is quite common to take your hat back for repairs, readjustments or reworking. Sometimes hats will become misshapen if not stored properly. A quick spray and steam over a hat block will return them to their former glory. This is why hat are always stored in a hat box to ensure their structural integrity. Perhaps the accessories on this hat are interchangeable and Sophie can change her hat when she wishes.

She wore the cream and orange hat in Brunei October 2017. This hat seems to be a bespoke piece designed especially for Sophie. We think the Countess’ hat looks most similar in design to the Annalisa, which retails for £1,200, purchase here.
