Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended a dawn Remembrance Service to commemorate ANZAC Day at Hyde Park in London yesterday, followed by a service at Westminster Abbey. Meghan was dressed smartly in a tailored grey maxi coat and wool felt hat, and later, a black Emilia Wickstead ensemble with beret.
Meghan wore a Smythe ‘Pagoda’ Jacket, from the Fall 2018 collection, a double breasted military style coat. The wool-cashmere panelled coat features wide notched lapels, double breasted tortoise buttons, a silt breast-pocket on the left hand side and falls to a maxi length. Meghan also wore a poppy attached to her coat. This is the first time that we have Meghan wear such a tailored coat for a royal engagement. Meghan is normally a fan of long line, wrap coats. The Smythe coat was crafted to perfection with amazing seam and panelling construction and detailing. We hope to see more structured coats in the future.
Now a look at what Prince Harry’s fiancee wore to Westminster Abbey. Meghan wore a sombre outfit by Emilia Wickstead and Philip Treacy.

Meghan wore the Emilia Wickstead ‘Christian’ textured crepe jacket, retailing for £401.69. The jacket features a high sharp pointed collar, single breasted hidden button placket, 3/4 length sleeves and a cropped waistline. The black fabric has a wave jacquard pattern throughout. Both the jacket and the skirt were part of Emilia Wickstead’s Spring/Summer 2014 Collection. We believe these are a custom made piece for Meghan. The Countess of Wessex is often spotted wearing Wickstead’s ultra feminine and demure designs and in fact has worn the exact outfit Meghan was wearing in pale blue. The Duchess of Cambridge also favours wearing the New Zealand born designer.

Meghan made a quick hat change for the afternoon and wore a Philip Treacy OC 467 hat. A small black parasisal tilted beret. This hat is modified with the large buntal scroll and flowers removed and replaced with a small embellished and beaded dragonfly. Meghan has now worn four hats for royal engagements with 50% of them worn on the same day! This small straw fascinator fitted Meghan’s head perfectly, at just the right tilt. We hope that Meghan may start to expand her had range a little more and try out a percher or large disc fascinator as they would really suit her face shape.

This is one of Meghan’s most polished and tailored Royal looks to date. In the last week alone Meghan has gone from meeting the public, to meeting Heads of States, other dignitaries, sitting in the Royal Box and attending military memorial services which is a different level of royal engagements. Meghan has stepped up her sartorial choices to reflect these more high profile events and today’s look perfectly reflected the sombre occasion for a church service befitting a senior royal lady.
