Today, The Duchess of Sussex attended the first day of Royal Ascot, Meghan’s very first time. She arrived riding in the carriage next to The Countess of Wessex, accompanied by her husband, Prince Harry, and Prince Andrew. Meghan chose a bespoke Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy creation in a monochromatic colour scheme, with a dramatic Philip Treacy hat.

Meghan wore a Givenchy white silk embroidered shirt dress, a custom creation by Clare Waight Keller, the woman responsible for her wedding dress. The dress features a sharp pointed collar, 7/8 sleeves with extended cuffs, featuring two buttons, and a button down placket that ends around knee length opening into a split. A very dainty and pretty detail of the dress is the white floral lace appliqué over the waist. This takes the dress from plain shirt dress to sophisticated royal lady. A drop handkerchief hem adds a bit of funk and interest to the dress, perfectly matching Meghan’s melting style of Duchess and young fashionista. A sweeping tea-length skirt adds the elegant feminine touch needed for Royal Ascot.

As this is a completely bespoke piece from Givenchy, we have done our best to find you Givenchy dresses from where Meghan’s dress may be inspired and features similar garment construction details. You will notice the asymmetric handkerchief hem and cuffs on the first dress, the pointed collar and lace detail on the second and the button cuff detail on the third.

Meghan wore a monochrome Philip Treacy ‘OC 423’ hat for the occasion. It is a very large, oversized tilted hat with exaggerated and very long quill – perhaps a little dangerous in length! This is a multi-layer hat with black and white straw overlays and a large, see-through brim. The hat sweeps dramatically upward in a wavy curve to create a true statement hat. A sharp pointed wave projects downward and sits alongside the face to frame it perfectly. We can’t help but think Meghan was doing her own twist on the famous Audrey Hepburn My Fair Lady look with the oversize black and white hat. The price is upon application for this hat. Some of you might notice there is some similarity in the shape to the hat worn by Meghan’s friend, Priyanka Chopra, to the royal wedding last month; this was also a Philip Treacy design.

Meghan wore a custom pair of Givenchy heels, similar to the ‘Women’s Infinity 100 Black Patent Leather Pump’, but seemingly in a patent leather; those we mention are black pointed-toe court heels have a curved cone heel stiletto. Meghan has added quite a few classic staple black heels to her wardrobe over the past few months, quite similar to The Duchess of Cambridge’s nude pointed-toe stiletto heel collection. We show the heels below in plain leather. You may still be able to purchase these heels here. Get a nice get the look here.

Of course, the grass at Ascot often makes looking at shoes quite difficult, but we have a few angles to show you.

Meghan cinched the waist of her shirt dress with a Givenchy black leather thin waist belt. This belt is very similar to the Givenchy belt Meghan wore earlier this week on her day of engagements with Her Majesty in Chester. The slight difference in this belt is the gold buckle. A larger gold plate with smaller Givenchy 2G Metallic Gold Clasp features in the centre of this belt. It is currently unavailable, but is believed to be part of the Spring/Summer 2018 Collection. We show a similar style below – this has the same double G logo but is missing the gold plate.
