Duchess of Cambridge hits fashion forward stride in Erdem tweed dress at V&A

The Duchess of Cambridge attended the opening of the new V&A Photography Centre at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London last night; Kate wore a gorgeous runway piece from Canadian designer, Erdem.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore the runway version of the Erdem ‘Iman’ off-the-shoulder embellished bouclé-tweed midi dress. A striking off the shoulder asymmetric folded neckline is adorned with several jewel floral pins on the left hand side. The dress is made from burgundy, black and white bouclé tweed and features a button-through front, embellished with varying jewelled buttons of crystals and faux pearls. Three-quarter sleeves are finished with frayed cuffs and the skirt boasts a bouncy fluted hem that skims just above the ankle, also with a frayed edging. A longer length of dress than we are used to seeing on Catherine. Kate has slightly altered the piece from the runway with the cutout over the midriff being removed – of course – and she added a plum belt to cinch the waist.

This dress is part of the Spring 2018 Collection. The ready to wear piece does not feature the cut out, has added darts over the bodice and hips and has a shorter length skirt. The Iman is also available in a very bright fuchsia with bold multi coloured print. The dress is of course sold out, though you can view it here.

We love the bold plum satin slip that matches her pumps under the dress, the attention to detail in this look is just amazing. Fashion is all about the little details and how they pull together to create the overall look.

Kate wore bold statement earrings from Erdem, the ‘Floral’ earrings, retailing for £290. A crystal and onyx stud, with crystal encrusted hoops, moves down to an oversized flower of smoked topaz and pearl petals with a hanging pearl drop. Again, another fashion statement from the Duchess and an earring style we are not used to see from her. Kate normally plays it safe with her earring choice, opting for softer and more delicate pearl earrings, or small gem studs or drops. It is not very often we get to see the glamorous and amazing earrings. We love when Kate goes big and hope to see more of this. You can purchase the earrings here.

It was a new Jimmy Choo clutch for the occasion: the ‘J Box’ in burgundy velvet. This cigarette box clutch showcases wide gold metallic frame edges, with the brand name engraved into the frame and gold clip clasp. The clutch we show below is in bordeaux velvet and does not have the same rich lustre as the clutch The Duchess of Cambridge is carrying. We believe Kate may have had this clutch made to order. Purchase this clutch for a nice replikate here.

Keeping it Jimmy Choo, the Duchess wore a new pair of heels, the ‘Romy’ 100 pumps in lush rich burgundy velvet. The heels we show in the image below are an older version of Kate’s with black leather trim around the heels. We believe Kate’s, like The Duchess of Sussex’s Romy heels seen in Northern Ireland, are from an upcoming collection.

These have to be by far our favourite ‘Kate’ shoes – well close to her Oscar de la Renta silver sparkly heels! The burgundy heels she was spotted in at a friends wedding a few months before she married with her Issa Dress, Libelula coat and Whiteley Fischer Fascinator have always been some our favourites, and of course she owns a similar toned pair from Gianvito Rossi. After she married, we always wondered why we never saw her choose to play with fashion more and wear fun heels. Over the years we have seen glimpses with her Tabitha Simmons snakeskin heels and her bold red Hobbs heels, both of which we have ever yet to see a return to wear since 2011! Purchase these heels as a nice replikate here.

This is a true winning outfit from the Duchess, she looks absolutely gorgeous and is turning into a true royal fashion Icon. Kate also has penchant to reinvent her look after she returns each time from maternity leave and really up her fashion game. We are excited to see what Catherine will choose for tomorrow at the Royal Wedding – fingers crossed no pastel McQueen!
