Duchess Meghan makes appearance at Trooping in navy Givenchy

Today saw the occasion of Trooping The Colour, the annual Birthday Parade for The Queen. Today also was the very first public appearance for The Duchess of Sussex since presenting son Archie to the world! Meghan attended the family event in a navy Givenchy ensemble.

Meghan rode in a carriage with The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duchess of Cambridge and of course her husband, The Duke of Sussex. She chose Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, a navy cape-style coat and a dress beneath. The navy coat fastened with two gold buttons, giving a v-neck, and had slit pockets on both sides. The shoulders were dropped and the sleeves flared to the elbow.

Beneath this, Meghan wore a navy dress with white shoulders and cap sleeves, which we saw when she came onto the balcony for the flypast.

Meghan paired this ensemble with navy accessories. First of all, a bespoke hat by Noel Stewart. The beret style hat had a blue and white looped bow on the right side, and was a nice complement to the look. We think this might have been a reworked version of the hat the Duchess wore to Princess Eugenie’s wedding last year.

The clutch chosen by Meghan was also from Givenchy, the ‘Mini Pocket Quilted Bag’ in teal. The rounded-edge bag features a quilted front flap and the distinctive double G Givenchy logo to the front in tarnished gold (below we show steel); there is also a decorative hoop hanging from this. The sides and back of the bag are smooth leather, and there is an optional shoulder strap in the same teal colour. This bag is available still here and costs £850.

The earrings worn by Meghan are unidentified at the moment. They might be made from white topaz or diamonds, cut into a baguette-shaped stone.

Other jewellery was, of course, her engagement and wedding rings but our attention turned a silver stone-encrusted band – an eternity ring – which it is thought Prince Harry gave to Meghan. This was gifted either on the occasion of the birth of their son, Archie, or as a traditional first wedding anniversary present.

The Duchess of Sussex held navy long leather gloves, which she actually wore on the return to Buckingham Palace; we don’t often see them on! How about these to copy her style?

We think the Duchess’ choice of such a dark outfit for such a joyful and summer celebration as Trooping The Colour was a miss; however, Meghan may have decided on a dark colour and wide cut to feel comfortable and not stand out too much. I think that the Duchess looked very good and motherhood serves her very much.
