The Duchess of Cambridge surprised many royal watchers when she attended the RAF 100 Year Anniversary celebration events at Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace earlier this week. Catherine joined her husband Prince William and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in a familiar-looking duck egg blue Alexander McQueen coat.

Kate wore a bespoke Alexander McQueen coat for the occasion. If you thinking that it looked a little familiar than you would right: not only have we seen Kate wear this coat in ivory but she also wore the coat in a pale lemon yellow for the Royal Wedding and now she has added in a pretty duck egg blue colour to the collection. This makes three of the same coat the Duchess owns in pastel colours.
The coat features a wide open v-neck collar and triangle shaped lapels. Peaked shoulders with bracelet length sleeves. A wide fitted waist panel moves to a slightly flared knee length skirt. The coat has hidden placket button closures. The tailoring of this piece is impeccable with dart detailing over the bodice and multiple panels at the front and rear of the coat to ensure a very flattering fit. Despite whether you like the coat or disagree that Duchess should have three of the same coat, it is a tailoring masterpiece and constructed perfectly, a true couture coat.
Perhaps the coat is very comfortable and as the Duchess knows it is a flattering style on her, this is the reason she has opted to wear the piece twice following Prince Louis’ birth, in two different colour-ways. Catherine wore a fascinator by Milliner Sean Barrett. Barrett is most well known for his work on hats for Downtown Abbey and other UK Period Movies and TV Shows. This is quite an unusual choice for the Duchess who normally exclusively wears Jane Taylor or Lock and Co Hats. We have seen her branch out to John Boyd and most recently Juliette Botterill who is a favourite of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Early on the Duchess wore a lot of Gina Foster, Jane Corbett and Rachel Trevor Morgan hats.
The Duchess’ hat was a round pale blue parasisal cocktail hat overlaid with white netting, trimmed with white flowers, pale blue sculptural buntal twists and accents of white netting. It is very exciting to see Kate choose a theatrical milliner and we are hoping that she can break out of the Alexander McQueen/Jane Taylor combination. We would like to see her become a little more experimental and even elaborate with her hats, perhaps close to Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

Her shoes were the favoured Gianvito Rossi ‘105’ heels in praline colour-way, retailing for £496. The Duchess also owns the exact same pair in the 85mm heel height. The bag was a repeat of the hard-case clutch seen at Trooping the Colour last month. The images for this event clearly show a silver metallic butterfly clasp. We believe it is a bespoke Alexander McQueen box clutch with silver frame with pale blue satin embroidered with a gold floral pattern. Get a replikate of this clutch here.

We saw The Queen’s diamond chandelier drop earrings for the event; Kate used to wear these earrings mainly for evening engagements, though over recent months has also worn them during the day. You can get a replicate of these earrings here.

Kate wore her RAF Dacre brooch.The Duchess is the Honorary Air Commandant of the RAF Cadets and was awarded this badge in 2015 after she took over the position from the Duke of Edinburgh. The Dacre brooch was once awarded to the best female RAF Cadet and is the highest award any female cadet can be given, but now female cadets are also given swords like their male counterparts, and the brooch was gifted to Catherine.
The brooch features a diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald jewelled St Edward’s crown atop large diamond RAF letters, surrounded by two gold branches of leaves inlaid with emeralds and all enclosed in a circle of diamonds. It is said to be worth around £20,000.
