Last night saw both The Countess of Wessex and Duchess of Cambridge choose red for the UK-Africa Investment Summit reception at Buckingham Palace. Kate wore a new designer, a more exclusive online lablel, Needle & Thread; this is a brand we normally see Princess Beatrice in!
More on Sophie’s look here.
The Duchess wore a new label, Needle & Thread, choosing their ‘Aurora’ dress. The tulle dress features a ruffled neck, and shoulder seams, and zips up at the back. The sleeves are sheer, but embellished, as is the bodice, although modestly opaque from the chest, through the skirt. It looks like Catherine has had the hem shortened a touch, to give an ankle-skimming look.
The piece costs £410 – get one here, or in black here. A grey/blue version is available here on sale, or a short red version here. This isn’t a bad replikate at less than half the price.

She chose her Gianvito Rossi ‘105’ heels, in red. You can get a pair here or here.
We got to see her distinctive Jenny Packham ‘Casa’ clutch in red. We saw this bag in Poland, too, and Kate owns it in silver as well.
Kate’s earrings were new, from Soru, a label you will recognise. Made of 18kt yellow gold vermeil on sterling silver, the earrings feature genuine ruby stones, surrounded by a border of crystals, although the Duchess’ appear to be slimmer in the border. The earrings are available for pre-order here, at £140.
