Yesterday, The Countess of Wessex was in the Royal Box at Wimbledon to watch British player Johanna Konta face off with Venus Williams for a place in the semi-finals.
Sophie chose a more casual look for the championships than we usually see, but this was in a private capacity as a lover of tennis.
The Countess re-wore an Alaia ‘Parfum’ dress in black and white. It appears that Sophie had the neckline raised to make the dress more suitable for a Royal – a common decision amongst the British Royal Family. The dress, which has an approximate £2000 price tag, is made from the brand’s ‘Parfum’ fabric, which is a mix of viscose and polyester. It has a fitted bodice, which then joins with a flared skirt to add some volume. This style of dress is always a top choice for me, and I think it really flatters Sophie’s figure.
Alaia fashion house, created by Tunisian designer Azzedine Alaia, counts a wide range of celebrity fans, including former First Lady Michelle Obama and French actress Marion Cotillard. Sophie herself has donned Alaia clothes on several occasions in the past, including this particular dress, which she wore for the Patrons’ Lunch celebrations for The Queen’s 90th birthday, although on that occasion she paired it with a simple black cardigan.
Over the dress, The Countess wore an elegant Sandro ‘Valina’ crepe jacket in black. This simple boxy blazer has a breast pocket detail and lies open over the dress, and is currently out-of-stock on Selfridges’ website – if a garment has been worn by a royal in the past week, it will be a nightmare to find!
It seems a fair assumption that Sophie wore black heels with the outfit.
The Countess wore her hair down in a blow dry style, rather than the up-dos she generally chooses for public occasions. Although I think Sophie does look very regal with her hair up, it’s always nice to see a change and she equally suits her hair blow dried in this way. She also donned a pair of stylish black-framed glasses to watch the ladies’ semi-finals.
With regards to jewellery, Sophie kept it simple with a pearl front and back earrings, likely from one of her favourite brands, Heavenly Necklaces.
