It was white lace once more for Duchess Kate yesterday, at the opening of Royal Ascot.
The McQueen dress comes from the brand’s Resort 2017 collection, an adaptation of the ‘lace mini dress’. Made from cotton and silk, the white piece seems a sensible option for the hot temperatures of the south of England.
It features a high neckline (an adaptation for the Duchess), 3/4 length sleeves, a thick waistband with a peplum-style trim beneath (mirrored on the back horizontal shoulder seam) a concealed zip fastening at the back and a flared skirt with scalloped hem. Kate’s was also clearly lengthened.
All of us fashion watchers seem to have had a difficult time identifying Kate’s hat. It is a cream cocktail hat in lattice, featuring a bow of the same material to the rear, with floral lace trim swirling across the hat and down the back, complete with pearl centres.
The Duchess carried a new bag, from Loeffler. The ‘Randall’ costs £255, and is made from cow’s leather, in a lizard-effect and comes with a chain strap. It is sold out in this colour but available in cream still.
For accessories, Kate wore a pair of earrings loaned to her by The Queen. They were a wedding gift from the King of Bahrain, an art-deco style diamond and pearl drop earring.

I was disappointed with the look overall, because it was so similar to last year’s; usually for an event at the same place (granted, usually official duties), Royals deliberately wear different colours and styles to help differentiate the photos from each visit.
