Another year has gone, and – from our point of view – there has been some huge fashion moments from The Duchess of Cambridge in 2019. We have seen beautiful feminine floaty gowns, chic casual wear, funky twists on nautical style and some well placed diplomatic dressing on the royal tour. We have chosen our ‘Top 10 Stand Out Outfits’ for Kate – it’s quite a task to narrow it down to just 10, we could probably add at least another 10 to the list! Have a look and see what you think? Do you agree with our picks? Have we left your favourite out?!
10) Catherine Walker blue ombre dress for Royal Visit Pakistan arrival

Why we love this look: The Duchess showed her aplomb at diplomatic dressing on the Royal Tour by wearing a Salwar Kameez that is traditionally worn in Pakistan. Kate had the bespoke garment created by British designer Catherine Walker, thus combining two countries into the one outfit and merging British and Pakistani fashion in one ensemble. The beautiful blue ombre dress with matching trousers underneath was quite a different styling and colouring than we have seen Kate wear before. The outfit highlighted the Duchess’ confidence in dressing for Royal Tours.
9) Cobalt blue Emilia Wickstead Danni dress visiting the National Emergencies Trust
[getty src=”1186087121″ width=”395″ height=”594″ tld=”com.au”]
Why we love this look: This outfit reminded us of Kate’s Issa engagement look, an amazing combination of blue and black which can be hard to pull off for most people, but Kate, as always, is the exception to this rule. The polished look of this dress shows us how far she has come with her sartorial choices, yet how Catherine still can stay true to herself. We would love to see this look with a hat.
8) Suzannah flippy wiggle dress seen at Wimbledon
[getty src=”1159583183″ width=”422″ height=”594″ tld=”com.au”]
Why we love this look: This perfect Wimbledon white dress showcases a return to retro 1940’s feminine glamour. Whilst this dress borrows its styling from a bygone era, Kate accessorised the dress to create a beautifully modern and princess perfect look, with a black belt, raffia bag and heels. The pleated folds along the rear panel create a beautiful contoured silhouette and exquisite feminine styling. You can still purchase this dress here.
7) Gucci pussybow blouse and Jigsaw wide leg trousers
Why we love this look: We think people’s reactions on social media were enough to get this look onto the list. We have rarely seen Kate wear trousers for any royal engagements over the years, with the Duchess normally opting for demure midi dresses. Kate was a knock out 70’s ‘glamazon’ in this look, appearing to step out effortlessly from a time machine into the modern era. The Duchess confidently and daringly wore the top with her own sense of fashion style – backwards! Which almost made the internet go into meltdown on its own! This was a genius move and reminded all of us that we don’t have to wear clothes in the exact manner they are created or the outfits put together by a stylist or visual merchandiser. Being able to take fashionable items and manipulate them to create your own personal styling is a mark of a true fashionista.
6) Jigsaw khaki culottes and Warehouse burgundy pointelle jumper at the Natural History Museum
Why we love this look: Talk about mixing colours that shouldn’t work together but do! The Duchess took her new found fashion love of trousers and took it to the next level. 1: The colour combination is quite unique, normally not paired together and definitely do not work for most people. 2: Cropped culottes only work if – well – if you are tall, or, unless you have them tailored precisely to your height, they look like normal trousers. And 3: The open weave of the jumper is very hard to pull off if you have a larger bust, as it makes the weave gape in a weird way. Yet the Duchess seems to make this difficult styling work again! How does she do it? We would love to see the jumper paired with Kate’s Mulberry pleated kilt skirt.
5) Alessandra Rich red print dress for A Berry Royal Christmas
Why we love this look: This dress was truly a festive wonder. It seemed to encapsulate a Princess in her castle preparing for a wonderful family Christmas by the fire. Kate’s navy and white polka dot Alessandra Rich dress is also a favourite of ours, but this dress just seemed to sing on a different fashion level. Almost as if you were creating a Christmas Princess Barbie, this is what she would be wearing. The print, the colour, the silhouette, the sleeves, the length, the bow at the neck and removing the keyhole are all winner in our book.
4) Custom Catherine Walker coat seen at Sandringham on Christmas Day
Why we love this look: A beautiful Christmas Coat for the Duchess this year and without a doubt her best Christmas look to date. Is it the cosy looking fabric, the military style, the fur trims around the neck and sleeves, the longline length or just a combination of all these things, that makes this such a stand out piece. We couldn’t help but love that Kate matched her accessories in this ensemble with Princess Charlotte’s coat! That is too cute! And much better than matching mummy and daughter outfits. More subtle, more fashion forward more regal. Even though we are obsessed with this coat we still might just chop one inch off the bottom.
3) Elie Saab blouse and skirt pairing at Ascot
Why we love this look: This has got to be Kate’s strongest look to date at Royal Ascot. Previously we have seen white dresses with nude accessories. This gorgeous bespoke look, with added sleeves a gorgeous tilted hat from Philip Treacy and matching earrings and shoes elevated Kate’s racing fashion prowess with a slick professional polish. If Princess Elsa was going to Royal Ascot this is what we would expect her to be dressed in!
2) White Alexander McQueen one-shouldered gown at the BAFTAs
[getty src=”1128735440″ width=”436″ height=”594″ tld=”com.au”]
Why we love this look: The Duchess looked like she had stepped back in time and emerged as a Greek goddess in this ethereal one-shoulder draped ivory Alexander McQueen gown. Catherine was a knock out sensation in this gown that floated magically behind her down the red carpet – one of Kate’s best BAFTA looks to date. She looked every inch the glamorous Royal. Wearing white head to toe with matching accessories might seem a bit bridal but again the fashion rule breaker Kate, just made it work without a second thought! Stunning!
1) Alexander McQueen velvet gown for the Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace
Why we love this look: This was an amazing fashion moment for Kate and we have never seen her look more regal than in this Alexander McQueen. This was big shift for the Duchess, with a gown created in a rich luxurious navy velvet instead of delicate lace that we are so used to seeing. The gown style reminds us a little of Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. The combination of the amazing twisted up do, the glittering tiara and jewels, The Royal Family Order and Kate’s GCVO, showcase Catherine as a stunning future Queen. Amazing! And our favourite look from 2019!
Do you agree with our picks and assessment of the Duchess looks for 2019? We look forward to bringing you more royal fashion in the new year and are looking forward to catching a glimpse of Kate in 2020, perhaps on her birthday around the 9th of January, but certainly on her first official engagement on the 14th!
Happy New Year from the Replicate Royalty team
