Countess of Wessex goes green for Trooping the Colour

Today was Trooping the Colour, The Queen’s annual birthday parade attended by the extended Royal Family. Sophie, The Countess of Wessex opted for some older pieces, choosing green and black for the occasion.

Sophie rode in a carriage with her husband, The Earl of Wessex, and two children, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn.

The Countess of Wessex repeated an old dress from Suzannah. This was the ‘Silk Gazar Ballerina dress’, influenced by the 1950s. The dress features a stand up collar, a fitted bodice that then moves into a full ballerina skirt, and bracelet sleeves. Sophie paired it with a thick black bow belt, adding further vintage vibes to the dress. The skirt features impeccable pleats to the front, and it zips up at the rear.

This dress was seen first in May 2015, then again at that year’s Order of the Garter service.

Sophie chose an older black hat from Jane Taylor to complement the outfit. It was seen in 2013 at Royal Ascot. This sinamay percher hat sits on the right-hand side of the head and on an angular skull cap. The disc is more of a sliver, being pointed at each end, moulded around the head, curls upwards and round at the top, and points down at the bottom. A vine of black flowers climbs the hat.

Sophie wore her Lucia Odescalchi ‘losange’ earrings with brown stones. We show them below in pink rodocrosite. Sophie’s earrings are no longer available, but these are a fantastic match.

We didn’t see any shoes or a bag, but it’s a safe bet they were black! Sophie owns a number of black heels, including Dior with a perspex heel, and LK Bennett ‘Harley’ with a platform. Your guess is as good as ours!
