Lady in red: Countess of Wessex opts for Alaia at UK-African Summit reception with other Royals

This evening saw a number of Royals gather on behalf of The Queen, to mark the UK-African summit. A reception was hosted by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Earl and Countess of Wessex, and Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace. Sophie chose an old red dress for the occasion.

The Countess wore her red Alaia (or Alaïa) scalloped hem wavy knit dress, a piece we saw back in 2018 at a garden party, as well as during CHOGM. It features a round neckline, scalloped sleeves, a scoop back and a scalloped hemline that falls to the calf. The dress is textured with a wavy knit throughout, and zips to the rear.

Sophie also has the piece in black metallic, which you might recognise from Princess Eugenie’s wedding, which has smaller scallop waves at the sleeves and hem, with additional ones at the neck.

She chose her blush pink Gianvito Rossi velvet pointed heels, which are long sold out. They feature a pointed toe, slim heel (we think these are the taller 105mm heel height). We last saw these at the Commonwealth fashion exchange reception, with The Duchess of Cambridge, and also at Ascot.

We saw the Countess’ Lucia Odescalchi ‘Lens’ earrings, which are made of oxidised sterling silver with a gold hook, hyaline quartz, white diamonds on the clips holding the quartz in place. They cost in the region of €500, with similar pairs, although not the exact shape, available here and here still.

The necklace was a piece gifted to the Countess when she visited Kosovo. The tarnished metal piece features a diamond-shaped base, slightly shorter at the bottom. There is intricate work, with what look like leaves and embellished berries flanking the central amber-coloured stone. Updates when we have them. Unfortunately, we don’t have any other information about the piece.
